Hertfordshire V Huntingdonshire
U15s at Berkhamsted CC
10th May 09
(45 overs per side)
Having won the toss on a beautiful sunny day, and playing at one of the most picturesque setting for a game of cricket, everyone was looking forward to a great game. The only let down was that the groundsman had decided that the game would be played on the end wicket, which was very disappointing considering it was a county game. With awkward slopes at each end, it was going to be a challenge to bowl good lines to the batsmen. This proved to be the case as Hunts. racked up 20 wides in their 45 overs.
Hunts got off to a good start with James Trafford providing the early breakthrough. Aaron Magee continued the success with two quick wickets the second a very sharp caught and bowled which reduced Herts. to 75 for 3 in the 20th over.
Dropping England hopeful W Ray on 23 was the turning point of the game as Herts. were able to consolidate, Ray going on to score 64. With another half century by L Anthony Herts. were able to post a challenging total of 253 in their 45 overs.
The Hunts. top order were blown away by the extra bounce created by the Herts. opening bowlers, with the score on 68 for 5 in the 22nd over it looked like we were going home early but Joe Dawborn had other ideas, hitting the ball straight and getting right behind it he finished with a very accomplished 64, with good support from Daniel Malem, Rob Lowin and James Trafford Hunts. managed to get to a total of 203 in their 45 overs. It was good to see Hunts bat the 45 overs and not loose all their wickets. Looking at the score book I thought we bowled too many wides but Herts. managed to double our total bowling 40 wides showing how difficult it was to bowl on that wicket.
All in all a better team performance than last week but we need the top order to start scoring. Overall it would be good to see more energy from the players between the overs and the fielding needs to be sharper to cut out those easy singles. Team spirit was again excellent and I can honestly say we are getting better with every game.
Well done to everyone!!
