Hunts V Dorset 4th May

Hunts U15s V Dorset U15s played at Godmanchester CC - 4^th May 2009

Hunts won the toss on an overcast bank holiday monday and decided to bowl. Their decision paid off as Captain Joe Dawborn steamed in to reduce Dorset to 16 for 3 after 7 overs. He finished his spell of 5 overs with figures of 3 for 8. Joe was well supported at the other end by the unlucky James Trafford. Joe was replaced by Daniel Bandaranaike who kept things tight at one end with a spell of 5 overs for 6 runs. Dorset pulled their innings back with a stand of 80 runs, but 2 quick wickets by Jack Prime again swing things Hunts way. Some good running between the wickets by the lower order saw Dorset post a challenging total of 218 in their 50 overs. Joe Dawborn finishing with figures of 4 for 39.

In reply Hunts got off to a solid start with Billy Curtis and Calum Hale putting on 56 for the first wicket. Tight bowling by Dorset made it difficult for Hunts to keep up with the scoring rate. The top order all got starts but failed to convert – Daniel Bandaranaike top scoring with 21 runs. Hunts finished on 139 all out in the 42 over with Rob Lowin adding some late impetus with a quick fire 17.

A good start to the season with plenty to work on especially with our running between the wickets and the fielding. We were competitive throughout the game and the team spirit was terrific especially early on when Dorset were put on the rack.
