Huntingdonshire U15s V Leicestershire U15s

Huntingdonshire U15s V Leicestershire U15s

Nassington Cricket Club 16th June 2009

(Cup 50 overs per side)

Leicestershire won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a good batting track at Nassington. Sure enough Leicestershire piled up the runs with the aid of some poor fielding and some inaccurate bowling, J Kirkham scoring his first ton for Leicestershire. Hunts pulled things back in the last 10 overs with Daniel Malem taking 4 for 25 in his 6 overs. Leicestershire finished on 271 for 8 in their 50 overs a total which at one point looked like being well over 300 great credit to all the Hunts boys for pulling things back.

Hunts got off to a solid start with Rob Lowin and Daniel Robinson opening the innings. The openers put on 124 for the first wicket (Daniel Robinson 36) as Hunts kept up with the run rate. Rob Lowin took the attack to Leicestershire as he seemed to grow in confidence with every shoot. Leicestershire squeezed the game in the middle overs by denying Lowin the strike and bowling at the new batsmen. Rob Lowin was eventually bowled out for 88 in the 36th over. Hunts were all out for 233 in the 48th over with Joe Dawborn unbeaten on 32. A great effort by the Hunts batters, the Leicestershire coaches were also all full of praise for our effort with the bat.

Norfolk U15s V Huntingdonshire U15s

Norfolk U15s V Huntingdonshire U15s

Great Melton CC 09th June 2009

(ECB Cup 50 Overs per side)

The conditions were damp and ideal for bowling, so it was no surprise when Hunts elected to bowl after winning the toss. James Trafford and Joe Dawborn were again very unlucky not to pick up early wickets as they kept things tight. Norfolk made slow progress eventually loosing their first wicket in the 17th over with the score on 39.

A fantastic catch by Josh Bowers of the bowling of Daniel Bandaranaike saw Norfolk loose their other opener for 49 in the 29th over. Not wanting to be out done by Bowers, Jack Prime dived full length to hold on to a beauty to get rid of danger man Ollie Stone off the bowling of Jack Skidmore. At this stage Hunts were well in the game as Norfolk had only 145 runs on the board and we were in the 41st over. The last 9 overs saw all the hard work done earlier disappear as Hunts failed to contain the Norfolk’s No.5 and No.6 who put on 73 in those 9 overs. Norfolk finished on 218 for 4 in their 50 overs, 40 runs to many in my opinion.

Hunts top order was blown away by Ollie Stone who finished with figures of 3 for 13 in his first spell. Hunts never recovered, loosing wickets at regular intervals and eventually were bowled out for 90 in the 27th over. I must say I was disappointed with our batting performance, thought we played the reputation of Ollie Stone rather than his bowling considering that this was the first time he had bowled this season.

Come on batters!! Lets put the batting right in the next game!!!

Huntingdonshire U15s V Cambridgeshire U15s

Huntingdonshire U15s V Cambridgeshire U15s

St Ives Cricket Club 31st May 2009

(Cup 50 overs per side)

Outclassed and outplayed on a flat St Ives track, Hunts were always behind the black ball after failing to post a decent total after winning the toss and electing to bat on a hot sunny day. Hunts got off to the worst possible start loosing two early wickets in the first 4 overs. At 8 for 2 Billy Curtis and Daniel Bandaranaike set about rebuilding the innings against some good tight bowling. Progress was slow as Hunts. only managed to get the score passed the hundred mark in the 35th over. The innings was given some impetus from the late order with Rob Lowin (24) and an unbroken last wicket stand of 34 from James Trafford (11) and Jack Prime (20). Hunts finished on 177 for 9 in their 50 over with Daniel Bandaranaike (39) top scoring.

Cambs got off to a flyer scoring at 6 per over. Unfortunately a controversial catch at slip off the bowling of Jack Skidmore changed the game for Hunts, the umpire gave the batsman out and then the square leg umpire reversed the decision. This seem to upset the whole team who lost their focus and just seem to be going through the motions. Cams got to Hunts total in the 30th over for the loss of two late wickets. The unlucky Luke Spears being bowled by James Trafford on 99 when the score was on 168.
