Norfolk U15s V Huntingdonshire U15s
Great Melton CC 09th June 2009
(ECB Cup 50 Overs per side)
The conditions were damp and ideal for bowling, so it was no surprise when Hunts elected to bowl after winning the toss. James Trafford and Joe Dawborn were again very unlucky not to pick up early wickets as they kept things tight. Norfolk made slow progress eventually loosing their first wicket in the 17th over with the score on 39.
A fantastic catch by Josh Bowers of the bowling of Daniel Bandaranaike saw Norfolk loose their other opener for 49 in the 29th over. Not wanting to be out done by Bowers, Jack Prime dived full length to hold on to a beauty to get rid of danger man Ollie Stone off the bowling of Jack Skidmore. At this stage Hunts were well in the game as Norfolk had only 145 runs on the board and we were in the 41st over. The last 9 overs saw all the hard work done earlier disappear as Hunts failed to contain the Norfolk’s No.5 and No.6 who put on 73 in those 9 overs. Norfolk finished on 218 for 4 in their 50 overs, 40 runs to many in my opinion.
Hunts top order was blown away by Ollie Stone who finished with figures of 3 for 13 in his first spell. Hunts never recovered, loosing wickets at regular intervals and eventually were bowled out for 90 in the 27th over. I must say I was disappointed with our batting performance, thought we played the reputation of Ollie Stone rather than his bowling considering that this was the first time he had bowled this season.
Come on batters!! Lets put the batting right in the next game!!!
